How Fancy Can a Toilet Be?

This is great comic relief during a very stressful time. That, and I really want one.

Like Spinning Coins? Try Doing it Backwards

Shot on Panasonic GH1 at 60fps, conformed to 24p, edited in final cut pro. Shooting the coin was challenging- shutter speeds, shallow depths of field, and different frame rates were all interesting variables to manage while shooting with natural light. An elusive subject, it made for a fun shoot.

Japan

Source: Gizmodo

Japan was first hit with a 9.0 earthquake; minutes later it was hit by a massive tsunami. In the aftermath, there were 3 aftershocks above 7.0 and 44 above 6.0 (there were 405 total aftershocks -- so far), a massive whirlpool, and 2 of the 15 nuclear power plants in the region are on the brink of meltdown.

NYT put together a before and after view of various cities (slide the bar).

Here's a pretty scary first person account watching the water rise and building being taken out.

Slip . . . . . . . . . . . . And . . . . . . . . . . . . Slide

Makes me really want to dig a big hole, spend hundreds on large rolls of plastic, and then fill it up with my neighbor's water. Not so sure how to get out, though.

One Day...

Rio de Janeiro. One day, I will go back. I will take both gondolas on Sugarloaf Mountain, visit as many beaches as possible (though maybe with a blindfold), watch a soccer game at Maracana, ride the trolly in Santa Teresa, pay an old man who drives a boat to take us to the Christ statue and feed the cutest monkeys ever some bananas. Oh, and eat nothing but meat on a sword, açaí, and rice and black beans. One day . . .
